NAR Ethics & Fair Housing Requirement


Cycle 8 for BOTH the NAR Ethics and NAR Fair Housing Training Requirement of membership  is January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027

As a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and the Greater Louisville Association of REALTORS®, you must fulfill your Ethics AND the Fair Housing training obligation (implemented in 2025) once during every triennial (3 years) cycle.   

Failure to complete both these requirements will result in suspension of your membership privileges with the Greater Louisville Association of REALTORS® (GLAR) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).

Members may only satisfy their NAR Code of Ethics and NAR Fair Housing training requirement by completing approved ethics/fair housing courses provided by:

  1. A Local Realtor® Association, such as GLAR – Find a class.
  2. A State Realtor® Association, such as Kentucky REALTORS®.
  3. Online through NAR (This will not count for continuing education credit.)
  4. Online through GLAR’s Online education portal or the CE Shop.

Courses offered by other providers WILL NOT satisfy the NAR Code of Ethics training obligation.

If you complete your Code of Ethics requirement through The CE Shop, please send a copy of your completion certificate to the GLAR Education Department at 502-894-9860 or email to Education@LouisvilleRealtors.com so that we may update your member record.

Options to Fulfill Your Ethics and/or Fair Housing Requirement

1. LIVE CLASS AT GLAR
Credit: NAR Ethics or NAR Fair Housing (depending on class), CE credit or PLE credit available
About: Take an approved in-person or Zoom live ETHICS and FAIR HOUSING class at the Greater Louisville Association of Realtors®.GLAR offers in-person and live Zoom options for ethics classes. These courses will fulfill your NAR requirements and you can also receive 3 hours of CE or PLE credit. These courses are listed on your member portal.

 2. ONLINE/ON DEMAND CLASS WITH GLAR ONLINE PLATFORM
Credit: NAR Ethics or NAR Fair Housing (depending on class), CE credit available, NO PLE credit
About: Take our approved online ethics/fair housing class through GLAR’s online education platform, accessible through LouisvilleRealtors.com under Education/Online Education.

3. THROUGH NAR ONLINE  COURSE
Credits: NAR Ethics or NAR Fair Housing (depending on class), NO CE credit, NO PLE credit
About: Take ethics training online through the National Association of Realtors®.The National Association of REALTORS® offers multiple free options with their online courses. Please note these courses do not offer CE or PLE credit.

NAR Ethics and Fair Housing Member Training Requirment FAQ

WHAT IF I AM GRANDFATHERED?
Members who are “Grandfathered” by the Kentucky Real Estate Commission (KREC) may still be required to satisfy this NAR® requirement.  Only Emeritus members are exempt.

SECONDARY MEMBERS OF GLAR
Secondary members of GLAR, please contact your primary REALTOR® Association for more information about these requirements.

ARE ETHICS, FAIR HOUSING & CORE REQUIREMENTS THE SAME THING?
No, they are not the same thing.  Ethics and/or Fair Housing is not the same class as the Kentucky Core course.  Core is a CE requirement of the KREC. The Ethics requirement and the Fair Housing Requirement are membership requirements of NAR®. They are two different requirements.
